Podiatry Treatment for Ankle, Foot, Leg, Back & Hip Problems
Your feet are a precious part of your body and very much like the foundations of your house, they take the weight of everything above them. Problems at foot level don’t just lead to pains in your feet they also often affect the way that you walk and the structures above. This can cause small but significant changes in your posture and walking mechanics.
The symptoms of altered foot and leg mechanics can include:
- Localised foot pain
- Bunions or hammer toes (curled up toes)
- Arch/heel/ankle pain
- Leg/knee pain
- Hip or back pain
If standing, walking or running makes your feet or legs hurt it may be that you have a problem with your foot or leg mechanics. At Sports and Spinal Physio we are equipped with the latest video analysis technology that allows the podiatrist to examine your feet and legs in slow motion while you walk or run. To see our video gait analysis with a commentary from our podiatrist please view the video above.
Using the information gained from your podiatry examination and video analysis, our podiatrist may prescribe you with custom or semi custom made orthotics to wear in your shoes or trainers. Orthotics improve your foot and lower limb mechanics and in turn decrease strain on your joints, ligaments, tendons and muscles. This reduces pain in the lower limbs and feet and may help with lower back problems too.
Information from the video analysis can also tell us about your ‘movement control’ and ‘core stability’. This can be used to devise a tailored exercise programme as part of your Physiotherapy treatment or Clinical Pilates programme.
